Hoodia - The Miracle Natural Herb For Weight Loss

This plant from South Africa may hold the key to miraculous weight loss. Discovered early in the 1960s, this plant that grows in the Kalahari Desert of Southern Africa has shown some remarkably amazing qualities, not least of all, its ability to suppress the appetite.

Although there are more than 40 different varieties of the Hoodia plant, only the Hoodia Gordonii has the active ingredient known as P57, which is the appetite suppressing agent. This ingredient mimics the effect that glucose has on the brain, it basically tells the brain that the stomach is full, and therefore, there is no need to consume any food.

\"natural Herb\"

The African bushmen of the Kalahari Desert have been using this plant for thousands of years, using it to stave off hunger when they go on long trips. It doesn't seem to have any bad side effects on them, although they do not consume this plant every day or in a regular manner.

People who try out Hoodia supplements and pills regularly report that they can stop feeling hungry for as long as 8 to 12 hours, some even report that they are hunger free, with no cravings for any food or drink for the whole day.

Scientific and clinical studies conducted since the discovery of the Hoodia Gordonii have mostly validated the appetite suppressing power of the plant. It works on animals as well as on humans. One study showed that people on average consumed 1000 calories less per day compared to a control group. This also resulted in a corresponding weight loss.

Imagine this - take the Hoodia Gordonii supplement or pill and feel no urge to eat, hence you can lose weight automatically, without much effort on your part. Just its affect of feeling full will prevent you from eating more food, and hence you will reduce your weight without doing much else.

Although the active ingredient, P57 has been identified, it is still not economically viable to synthesize this by a chemical process, so the only way now to get this is for the pharmaceutical companies to actually grow the Hoodia plant in large plantations.

Do beware of fake Hoodia pills and supplements. To guarantee that you are getting the real Hoodia, make sure that the pills or supplements have been independently tested. Alkemist Pharmaceuticals or Chromodex are two companies that have been licensed to test Hoodia by Phytopharm (the people who discovered the active ingredient).

As a miracle weight loss product, Hoodia certainly fulfills the conditions.

Natural Or Herbal Remedies For Spider Veins

The annoying, unattractive groups of small veins that appear on the skins surface are called spider veins. They are purple or dark blue and are often found on the back parts of a person's legs.

Natural remedies are available that help diminish the unsightly look of spider veins. These supplements treat the cause of spider veins, not only being a remedy for their symptoms. Herbal remedies strengthen vein walls and may improve blood circulation and the veins flexibility. Spider veins fade away once the vein is restored to a healthy state.

\"herb Remedies\"

Extract from the Japanese pagoda tree is amongst the finest herbal supplements available for spider vein treatment and since the 1960's has been very successful. This supplement is able to enhance capillary and vein stability, reduces inflammation and increases blood circulation in order to decrease blood pooling in the lower leg veins.

Another excellent herbal supplement is horse chestnut extract (seed extract from horse chestnut fruit). This extract is able to repair minor leakages in small veins, strengthens the vein's walls, increases the veins elasticity and prevents general swelling. Over the years the use of this supplement has helped stop the occurrence of new spider veins and also to diminish their appearance.

Vitamin K is a natural remedy that aids blood clotting and by rubbing it over spider veins supposedly causes the vein's blood to clot thereby destroying it. It is a similar principle to the conventional approach used in laser treatment of spider veins.

Another natural remedy is witch hazel which is applied 3 times a day (over a period of a few weeks) to affected regions. Stop the treatment if an allergic reaction like skin rash or irritation occurs. Other remedies available are aromatherapy, color therapy, acupuncture, acupressure and hydrotherapy.

The choice of which treatment method to use is a personal one and it is worth considering some kind of combination of herbal supplements and natural remedies.

Herbs for High Blood Pressure - Natural Treatment Guide

Many people don't trust drugs for high blood pressure; they prefer natural way of dealing with it. Luckily for you, several herbs are very effective to control this common condition. Discover how you can use herbs for high blood pressure to treat hypertension and to improve your health.

Herbs have always been used successfully to treat many conditions. And high blood pressure treatment is not an exception. Of course, herbs don't give a dramatic effect like drugs, but their effect is more long term. Also herbs are safer and don't produce dangerous side effects.

\"about Herbs\"

Herbs used to treat high blood pressure are:

- Ginkgo Biloba

- Garlic

- Hawthorn

- Arjuna

- Ashwagandha

- Valerian (to relive stress)

- Cinnamon

- Nutmeg

- Ginger

- Cardamom

- Guelder rose

Ginkgo Biloba gives very good results in reducing blood pressure. It relaxes blood vessels and stimulates the circulatory system. It reduces bloods ability to clot which allows blood to flow more freely. Ginkgo Biloba is the most known herb for natural high blood pressure control. Surprisingly, garlic has similar effect. Studies prove that people who take garlic supplement show reduction in blood pressure.

Hawthorn helps to dilate blood vessels and block Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) also called blood-restricting enzyme.

Other herbs often used for high blood pressure include passiflora incarnate which has a calming effect and also relaxes blood vessels, resulting in reduced blood pressure. Guelder rose bark also relaxes the entire cardiovascular system, lowering blood pressure.

A complex view of high blood pressure natural treatment

If you are serious about controlling your blood pressure the natural way, using herbal remedies is only part of the solution. You will also have to take a look at your lifestyle and make changes if necessary.

For example, no matter how many herbal medicine you use, your blood pressure will be high if you smoke. Nicotine constricts the blood vessels. So your heart has to work twice as hard. Reducing smoking is a good start, but eventually aims at giving it up completely.

Another thing that affects blood pressure greatly is whether you lead active or sedately lifestyle. You will have to move around to straighten your heart. In addition to using herbal blood pressure remedies, diet and exercise needs to be part of the solution.

Diet is also greatly important. You will have to eat less foods high is saturated fat, cholesterol and salt. Salt is a number one enemy of a person with hypertension. When cooking your meals try using spices and herbs instead of salt. This will work especially well since several spices like cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger help to reduce blood pressure

It might be easier to take a pill once a day rather than work on treating your blood pressure naturally. But by using herbs for high blood pressure, exercising and eating right you will get long lasting results.

Stop Smoking Herbs - Have You Tried Natural Herbs To Quit Smoking?

To stop smoking is hard, and most smokers cannot quit - and if they do - it is only for a short time. More and more people are getting into the natural way of doing things anymore, and using herbs to stop smoking is a very popular method for smokers today. Those who have been able to quit smoking with using herbs as a preventive, swear by them as a successful aid. They help in combating the withdrawal symptoms that every smoker faces when he tries to give up smoking. Among other things, the herbal cures lead to positive mood swings and reduce the urge to light another cigarette.

One of the natural substances that can be used by people when they want to quit smoking is Lobelia, or Indian tobacco, an old and controversial herb that has recently become popular to smokers who want to quit the habit and cannot. Used for centuries as an expectorant that cleans the lungs, it was used for asthma, bronchitis, whooping cough, or pleurisy. Many uses are connected with Lobelia - relaxants, antispasmodics, diaphoretics, reducing inflammations and pain, poultices, hyperactivity, easing muscle tension or convulsions - which go back in history until its recent popularity today. Many believe it makes the taste of regular tobacco "repulsive" while other naturalists use it to clam the nerves and relax the body muscles, easing mild depression. Lately, current evidence suggests the herb Lobelia can produce similar effects on the human body as nicotine, yet is not addictive and helps eliminate the desire to smoke. There is trouble when it is overused, such as vomiting, drowsiness, weak pulse, and respiratory failure.

Herbs

Another herb is the Mimosa tea ("mimosa hostilis"), a perennial evergreen shrub that is native to northeastern Brazil and also found in southern Mexico. The root bark is the choice part of the plant, traditionally used in the preparation of a psychoactive sacramental beverage. Giving up smoking may make you feel anxious, or give you a headache but a strong cup of Mimosa tea can boost your mood and help you calm down. It is not addictive and is recommended for use instead of anti-depressant medicines. Similarly, the traditional Chinese CaoSu herb diminishes the desire to smoke.

Smoking non-tobacco cigarettes look like regular cigarettes and are available in many flavors like burnt sienna and menthol. They offer the same sensation while smoking as regular cigarettes but are healthier because they don't contain nicotine or tar. However, you must consult your doctor before taking these or any herbal medicines, because many of them may contain substances similar to drugs. You must also eat lots of raw or lightly steamed fresh fruits and vegetables, drinking lots of water, fruit juice, herbal tea, etc, to flush out the nicotine. Try taking hot baths, whirlpool baths, and saunas. These make you feel better, and reduce the urge to smoke. Another way to fight the craving for nicotine is to chew on a large flavored toothpick, or squirt juice into your mouth. Similarly, drinking herbal tea, which is made from five different herbs, can help you to fight the urge to smoke.

Natural Hair Loss Remedies

Fact: There is no sure-fire way to prevent all hair loss. However, some methods that have been used work on some people. Here are some suggestions for natural remedies to hair loss. Massage Massaging the scalp in general for a couple of minutes a day can stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles and in mild cases stimulate some hair growth in minor cases of temporary hair loss. There are several electric massagers on the market that have an attachment for scalp massaging as well. An oriental method called Qi Gong (pronounced Chi Kung) has been used to increase circulation to the scalp and face also. Aromatherapy A blend of six drops each of lavender and bay essential oils in a base of four ounces of either almond, soybean or sesame oil massaged into the scalp and allowed to sit for 20 minutes has been used by aroma therapists to stimulate the scalp. Saw Palmetto Extract There is a definite connection between the prostate and hair loss for men. Saw Palmetto has been found to work in fighting benign prostatic disease by lowering levels of DHT, which is a known cause of androgenetic alopecia. Saw Palmetto extract is an effective anti-androgen and shows promise as an effective treatment for hair loss prevention. More information on Saw Palmetto for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Women on oral contraceptives or hormone therapy should not take Saw Palmetto. Nettle Root Extract Nettles are rich in vitamins A and C, several key minerals and lipids that can be beneficial to the hair. Nettle Root Extract has been used successfully in Europe as an inhibitor of 5-alpha reductase in treating BPH. Rosemary and Sage Rosemary and sage are two herbs that have shown benefit traditionally when used externally. Boil together in water rosemary, sage, peach leaf, nettle and burdock. Then strain the loose herbs from the liquid and use the liquid to wash the hair daily. Jojoba Oil If you are predisposed to seborrhea, eczema, psoriasis, or dandruff, you could consider using jojoba oil. Mexicans and southwestern Native American nations have used jojoba oil traditionally for centuries to promote hair growth and the control of dandruff. Jojoba oil is great for hypoallergenic skin because it is a great moisturizer and mimics the scalp's own sebum. Aloe Vera Aloe Vera has been used by Native Americans, Indians and many in the Caribbean to promote healthy hair and prevent hair loss. Aloe's can help the scalp by healing it and balancing the pH level of the scalp while cleansing the pores. A common preparation of Aloe Vera gel with a small amount of wheat germ oil and coconut milk is used as a shampoo and has traditionally shown great benefit. Henna Henna is a traditional Indian herb that acts as a natural conditioner and is excellent for the maintenance of healthy hair. It can help heal the hair shaft by repairing and sealing the cuticle, protecting hair against breakage and loss of shine. Polysorbate-80 Polysorbate-80 is an FDA approved surfactant that is also approved as a food additive. Although not proven, Polysorbate-80 is said to remove deposits of DHT and cholesterol from the scalp. Polysorbate-80 is being recommended by some naturopathic practitioners as an application for the scalp approximately 15 minutes prior to shampooing. Cleansing and Detoxification Cleansing should be a major part of your regimen to maintain and grow hair. Many scalp related diseases are directly the result of toxemia, while toxins in the body adversely affecting the body's systems indirectly affect other conditions. Cleansing can be performed through oral means regularly and occasionally by enema or colonic irrigation. More remedies for detoxification Psyllium husk Fiber is vital to cleansing, and most North American diets are deficient in natural fiber. Psyllium husk is a bulking laxative agent that can be used to safely move waste through the colon. Psyllium is a very good substance as it gently scrubs the walls of the colon to remove waste that is stuck to the walls.

Exercise Finally, although exercise does absolutely nothing directly to grow hair, most holistic practitioners recommend it. Exercising can improve blood flow, the delivery of oxygen to the cells of the body, and help the digestion of foods, all things that aid the health of hair follicles. Four All Natural Antibiotic Herbs

Many people already know that all natural herbs can be quite healthy for them. There are herbs which help with high blood pressure, herbs which curb your appetite, herbs which help with balancing out your bodies insulin levels and more.

Many people don't realize just how healthy and helpful herbs can be though. In fact, most people who use an herb for something, don't realize that same herb is quite useful for a variety of other health issues. And many people don't realize just how much more is actually out there, at inexpensive prices, over the counter.

Herb

There are several herbs for instance, which work as powerful infection fighting antibiotics. Let's briefly explore a few of those...

1. Garlic. Since garlic is a very popular herb for use in blood pressure problems, many people already know it's quite healthy for you. What you might not know though, is that garlic is a powerful infection fighting herb.

The main component of garlic is called allicin. This is what makes garlic have such a strong odor, but one milligram of this compound is said to be as potent as 15 milligrams of standard Penicillin.

A serious mistake many people make though, is to buy garlic in an "odorless" pill or capsule form. These products which have no odor also have little to no effectiveness on your health. Because allicin is the key part of garlic, and that's the part that causes the odor, removing the odor also removes the ingredient you needed in the first place.

2. Golden Seal. Another very powerful natural antibiotic, this is an herb not many people have heard of. Golden Seal comes in pills and capsules too, and you can buy either ground root versions, or ground leaf and stem versions. The root variety is the strongest for infection fighting.

Golden Seal is also a natural source of insulin though, so anyone who is hypoglycemic - a.k.a. you have low blood sugar problems - should not take Golden Seal.

3. Echinacea. This herb has become quite well known and popular in the last five to ten years. It's another excellent infection fighting herb, particularly for lymph gland infections and problems.

Echinacea is also wonderful to take when you feel a cold or the flu coming on. It won't usually prevent the cold or flu, but it does tend to reduce the severity of your symptoms, and often it helps make the experience last much shorter than normal.

4. Kelp. Kelp is a natural herb which has a salty taste, and can even be used in place of table salt for food seasoning. The powerful infection fighting properties of Kelp come from it being a natural source of iodine, and iodine helps your body kill infections and bad bacteria.

Kelp is also excellent for helping to regulate your thyroid, which is part of why it works so well when there's an infection in your body. The Kelp helps your thyroid release extra iodine into your system for fighting the infection.

Now this is just a small summary of the powerful health properties these herbs have. There are many more benefits each herb offers and there are many more, lesser known herbs available for keeping you and your family healthy.
